Above is a former Janjaweed soldier coming out and speaking about the Janjaweed.

Janjaweed's Position in the Darfur conflict
The Janjaweed are a militia originally created by the Sudan government as a defense militia against rebellious groups. However, around 1988 the militia seemed to be earning itself a infamous title as men on camels that rape, loot, and slaughter. These brutal attacks seemed to focus on Darfurians, which has resulted in many of the people from Darfur to flee into nearby countries like Chad. The government denies any control over the Janjaweed, yet their soldiers and helicopters have been seen helping in the raiding of Darfurian villages as well as the soldiers looting and raping afterwards. The militia believes itself as a large part of the war on the rebels and their leaders seem to not fear the police, the U.N or any other major power. They have come out right and claimed to be doing the right thing for the country and say they are ending the rebellion, while other people can disagree and say they are pushing for a civil war or simply a 'cleansing' of the Darfurians.

Janjaweed's role in the conflict
The Janjaweed are a militia that has been sent out by its leaders to force Darfurians off their lands and allow more Arabian herders to take the land and use it for themselves. They are mostly the lead force in repelling the so called 'rebellious Darfurians' off of Darfur land and into other countries. The Janjaweed and the government both deny having contact with each other and the Sudan government claims to have never had complete control over the militia. This has been proven to not be the case in 2004 by some new documents discovered and they almost all state that the Janjaweed was armed and recruited by the government and they had a firm control. The Janjaweed militia is almost all Arab speaking men who ride camels and were once herders which brings up the old conflicts between Arab herders and settled African farmers.

Leaders of the Janjaweed
The Janjaweed has a large number of leaders of all different ranks, but only a few are very well known and have shown their power several times. Two very well known infamous war criminals are Sheikh Musa Hilal and Hamid Dawai who have lead and ordered several attacks against the Darfurians. Sheikh Musa Hilal admits having some control over the Janjaweed, however he still says that they are working with the government and working to stop the rebellious Darfurians who have been treating the Arabs unfairly.

History of the Janjaweed
The Janjaweed are Arabic speaking tribes that feel the right to some lands and now they are stealing, slaughtering, and raping the Darfurians who claim to be African and not Persian. The Janjaweed started around 1988, and in 1990 through 2001- 2005 got the reputation as armed men on horses who have no mercy to anyone who is against their cause or any of the Darfurians. The conflict occurred mostly because the Arabian speaking tribes were mostly nomadic, while the African farmers were settled, which caused battles for land and started a long time conflict between them which has led to the attacks by the Janjaweed which has almost all Arabic peoples. The Janjaweed almost all being Arabic only leads people into believing that this is more about the past then it is rebellious groups, and the signs of Janjaweed attacks are very apparent. Not only are the Janjaweed merciless, they are also very bad at honoring the dead if they find any resistance they kill the enemy and leave their body there to rot, if a person runs they shoot them down and leave them there or drag the bodies away and displace them.
